July Swazi Team Prayer Calendar

Thursday July 1: The Swazi Team is happy to welcome Todd and Deborah Hoskins to Swaziland. The Hoskins will work (church planting) in Manzini and develop rural training schools throughout Swaziland. Pray for Todd and Deborah as they prepare to come and minister with the Swazi Team. The Hoskins arrive on the 7th of October.

Friday July 2: Pray for Steve, Monica and the family as they make the transition from North Carolina to Florida for the remaining three months of their stateside assignment. Please pray for the family as goodbyes are said to family in North Carolina. Pray also for safety on the highways and the children will travel well as they make the long journey to West Palm Beach, Florida.
-The Allens wish to thank everyone who prayed for the family’s reunion to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Steve’s parents. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, remembrance and celebration. Everything went smoothly and the time was enjoyed by all.

Saturday July 3: The Executive Committee of the Baptist Convention of Swaziland meets today in Manzini. Last meeting all the new officers were in place. Pray the new leadership will work towards uniting all the Swazi Baptist churches in ministry and compassion.

Sunday July 4: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Lacie Allen prayed to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior on the 20th of June. Upon her request her parents and uncle counseled and prayed with her during the invitation. It was a very special time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who were present. Pray for Lacie as she grows in the Lord.

Monday July 5: Today the Swazi Team will celebrate the 4th of July in Tshaneni! Pray for a great time of celebrating.

Tuesday July 6: June 13th 21 people were baptized at the Maphungwane Baptist Church. The group consisted of women between the ages of 30-40, two grandmothers and several youth. It was a wonderful service and a blessing to see the church excited about the baptism of these new believers. Pray those baptized will understand their commitment to the Lord.

Wednesday July 7: Sipho is an adult Swazi that is HIV positive. Taking the ARVs (anti-retrol viral) he is able to live a somewhat normal life. Statistics show that 400,000 adults live in Swaziland and 44% of these adults are on ARVs. Pray the anti-retro viral drug will continue to be available for those suffering from HIV/AIDS. Pray for a change in behavior that causes the spread of HIV/AIDS and the need for ARVs.

Thursday July 8: Continue to pray for Wayne’s brother Terry, currently in remission from stage 4 cancer and also pray for his sister Patsy on oxygen 24/7 for COPD. Pray also for Barbara’s brother-in-law as he continues to gain strength after a herniated disc surgery in November and for her nephew-in-law’s mother diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Friday July 9: On Friday the Myers have begun an afternoon Bible study (adult, youth and children) with the Luwhhawhheni Baptist Church. Presently attendance is small and late in arriving. Please continue praying for the Luwhhawhheni Baptist Church as follow-up (revival) continues and the church strives to reach its community.

Saturday July 10: Since arriving in Swaziland in March Al and Belinda Jordan have experienced their share of surprises and unexpected events. Please pray Al and Belinda’s remaining time in Swaziland will be devoid of unexpected surprises that hide the joy and blessings the Lord provides. Pray the last three months will be full of thanksgivings!! It is such a blessing having them volunteer their time and finances in this way to help ensure the work of ministry does not lose its momentum.

Sunday July 11: One pastor from the Lubumbo region and one pastor from the Shiselweni region recently began conducting visitation and surveying in the Moneni area. 15 conversions are reported and the duo is looking for a place to begin a Bible study. A pastor has asked the missionary to help him do survey work near his home place. We praise the Lord for these men who are "church planting." Please pray for these two areas as evangelization continues and possibly new work begins. Pray more leaders will take the initiative to help pastorless churches and begin new work.

Monday July 12: Monica and Lacie Allen are guest missionaries at the Florida GA/Acteen Camp (July 12-16). Please pray for them as they share about missionary life and ministry among the Swazi people during this week. Pray also for Steve and Nathan as they stay behind for some father and son time.
-Lisa and Sarah Warren will be sharing about Swaziland at Camp Mundo Vista (North Carolina) during two mother/daughter camps (July 12-16). Please pray for a wonderful week of connecting with these mothers and daughters. Pray the Lord will be glorified in all that is said and done.

Tuesday July 13: Continue to pray for the Hawane and Lesibovu Baptist Churches as both congregations strive to reach their goals needed for the construction of their church structures. Pray weekly giving toward these projects will allow construction to soon begin.

Wednesday July 14: Kym Pennington, the new True Love Waits International consultant to Swaziland will be in the country during the National Youth Camp (August) to meet with TLW presenters and share will all attending the camp. Pray for Kym as she prepares to make her first trip to Swaziland. Pray this will be the beginning of a wonderful working relationship between Kym, the Swazis and the Swazi Team.

Thursday July 15: Pray the King of Swaziland, his wives and children will be set free from cultural bondage by the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Friday July 16: Today friends of Todd and Deborah Hoskins (2-year missionaries to Swaziland) are giving them a farewell party. Pray this will be a time of encouragement and joy!
Saturday July 17: Pray for Lisa Warren today on her birthday!
In spite of the weakened economy and sluggish recovery, Southern Baptist gave $148.9 million in 2009 to support international missionaries. It was the third largest Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Thank You. In 2010 pray this wonderful generous spirit will continue in our Southern Baptist churches to ensure efforts to reach the many lost around the world will continue.

Sunday July 18: Sunday June 20th, three ladies stood before the Vuvulane Baptist Church to say the books of the Bible. For these (2 mothers and 1 grandmother), it was an exciting accomplishment. Encouragement to others has been given. Pray members of our Swazi Baptist churches will see the need to learn the books of the Bible and will encourage their children and grandchildren to do the same!

Monday July 19: Please pray that all the members of the Allen family will get their final medical clearances from the mission board in a timely manner so they will not be delayed leaving the states on the 24th of September and arriving in Swaziland on the 26th of September.

Tuesday July 20: Muslims believe that God’s final message to man was revealed to the prophet Mohammed through Gabriel. They do not believe that Jesus is God’s Son, or that He was resurrected following His crucifixion. Pray God will reveal Himself to the Swazis following Islam. Pray Christian Swazis will be a light in the darkness sharing the love of Jesus with the people.

Wednesday July 21: As the Swazi Team begins to seek ways to meet the needs of AIDS victims and their families, pray the Team will be open to being led by the Lord in developing ministries to help AIDS orphans as well as AIDS victims.

Thursday July 22: A major training event begins today (July 22-24) for pastors and lay leaders of the Shiselweni and Lubumbo regions. Gathering together for a time of learning and fellowship is always encouraging for these leaders. Pray the Lord will be glorified through the Biblical teachings to these special called Swazis.

Friday July 23: Pray for Belinda Jordan today on her birthday!
Please continue praying for the team of volunteers from the First Baptist Church, Belton, Texas leading the National Youth Camp in August. Pray for Grant and Jenna, Brett, Courney and Daphne as they prepare for this awesome ministry.

Saturday July 24: SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES: The Coloured of Namibia have a strong sense of identity and separateness from both black and whites. They usually speak either Afrikaans or English rather than "traditional" African (tribal) language. Most live in urban areas with a great variety of careers. Pray God will call out His own to share the Gospel with the Namibian Coloureds. Please pray for the Coloured of Namibia.

Sunday July 25: Please pray that God will give clear direction concerning where the next new outreach Bible study group should start in either the Hhohho or Manzini regions when the Allen family returns.

Monday July 26: Today the Hoskins begin their time of training at the International Learning Center in Rockville, Va. Pray transition and preparations will stay in step with His will.

Tuesday July 27: Pray for Bert and Lisa Warren today on their anniversary!!
"It was the best camp I’ve ever been to. I learnt that I must be transformed from wrong doing and do the will of God. Every step I take I take for God." The 2010 National Youth Camp is scheduled for August 26-29. A volunteer team from Belton, Texas (First Baptist) will lead. Pray those who attend will leave feeling the presence of the Savior and will daily strive to seek His face.

Wednesday July 28: A few years ago a missionary was given a couple of pineapple tops to plant. After planting the tops he waited for about three years until finally he began to see evidence of a pineapple growing on one of the plants. It was another six months before the pineapple was ready to pick. What a joy it was to pick that first pineapple. Using this example of growing pineapple one can see the growing of leaders and workers for the harvest field in Swaziland takes a long time. Working with youth and young adults in a culture that promotes an unchristian lifestyle can be emotionally trying but the reward can be so sweet. As missionaries on the Swazi Team struggle with disappointments, pray they will look to the Lord for guidance, His wisdom and the assurance that the outcome will be worth the wait.

Thursday July 29: Imagine children running, laughing, singing, reading, praying, coloring, reciting the books of the Bible and other fun things and you have imagined the annual Swazi Baptist children’s camps. The 2010 camps’ theme is "Let us talk to God." The first camp is in northeast Swaziland is August 16-19 and the second camp in the Shiselweni region is August 30-September 1. Please pray Swazi Baptist churches in these two areas will send their children to these two camps. Pray each child attending will experience a new awakening of Christ’s love in his/her life.

Friday July 30: "I Will Cry Unto the Lord" is the theme of the 2010 Swazi Baptist Women’s Retreat October 14-16 at the Manzini Baptist Church. Please pray Swazi Baptist women will make preparations to attend this annual event. Pray continued planning will go smoothly.

Saturday July 31: Today the Shiselweni Association meets at the Velebantfu Baptist Church. It has been a while since the association has met. Pray as the churches come together to plan and fellowship there will be a sense of unity and harmony.

THANK YOU, GOD, FOR AMERICA
We thank you God, for America,
For the freedom and peace we know;
And we pray for Your continued blessings
On this land that we love so.
We salute our flag, we honor those
Who fought to make us free;
For all the good things we enjoy;
We give the praise to Thee.

Myers Weekly Letter

Every morning as we offer up prayer to God, let us also be careful to watch for Him to respond. It is only as we are looking that we can see and celebrate when God does His part—the answering, the blessing, the changing! (Elizabeth George)

Thank you for praying for this week’s events.
--The dinner meeting with the pastors /wives on Tuesday went very well. Wayne was able to discuss the importance of planning in furthering the work in northeast Swaziland. Please pray for this group as planning meetings are now on the calendar and will be an important tool to reaching the many lost in Vuvulane, Mafucalu and Luwhhawhheni for the Lord.
--Wayne met with the new officers of the Baptist Convention of Swaziland yesterday morning for encouragement and guidance on conducting the Convention meetings. Hopefully in the future old and new business will be handled correctly with a more effective Convention.
Saturday July 3, the Executive Committee of the Baptist Convention of Swaziland will meet at the Manzini Baptist Church. Pray for this meeting. Pray also for the new leadership to work towards uniting all the Swazi Baptist churches in ministry and compassion.
--Meeting with pastors of the Shiselweni region Saturday afternoon mainly discussed the agenda for the training event planned for next month. Please pray these leaders and pastors will stay strong in the Lord. We were saddened to hear that one of the leaders of our churches had been helping himself to part of the church offerings. This leader is young and in some ways immature and the need for money overtook the need to do was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Pray for June as the Lord prepares her for this very special ministry.

In the past I have asked you to pray for the Tfwalas. We first met the Tfwalas at the Velebantfu Baptist Church after he asked us to come and help with Bible studies and training. Over the years the Tfwalas have experienced difficulties in their marriage and have separated on several occasions. In April they reunited. Johannes phoned Wayne last week to say that his wife Lindiwe attempted suicide and is now in counseling. Please pray for Lindiwe to overcome her emotional difficulties. Pray she will cry out to the Lord for His guiding hand. Pray for the Tfwala family as they continue to struggle.

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA
June 11-July 11, 2010
Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is AUSTRALIA:
-There is widespread interest in spirituality in Australia, but people are not turning to churches to explore it. Church attendance has declined steadily over the last few decades. Pray for revival in Australia-something that has never happened before.
-Pray for migrant people in Australia. More than a quarter of Australians were born in other countries. Oftentimes immigrants feel very isolated from the much promoted "Australia way of life", and whilst there is access to the gospel in Australia, few migrants make themselves a part of the wider community of faith. Pray for more immigrant people to feel included in the Christian community, and to build bridges between different cultures in the Australian "Melting pot."

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA
June 11-July 11, 2010
Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is NEW ZEALAND:
-Pray for wisdom for those in the New Zealand church, to know how to reach out to young people who are caught up on the post-modern generation.
-The recent revival in Maori culture is changing New Zealand society. Pray that there would be a new generation of strong Christian Maori leaders.
-The missions vision of the New Zealand Church is an example to many other lands, but has faltered in recent years. New Zealand is ranked in fourth in the world for missionaries sent out per head of Christian population. Pray for this missons vision to be nurtured by pastors and embraced by whole congregations.

- World Cup fever has arrived in Swaziland even though the country is not represented in the games!! Everyone is wearing team shirts and supporting the South African team Bafana Bafana. We went into a grocery store in Simunye on Friday and had to wait until intermission (South Africa was playing) for someone to tag our onions!!

**Don’t forget to check this website www.worldsoccerjourneys.com for stories concerning the World Cup games. Also, check this website www.mReport.org, for lots of up-to-date information about ministries going on during the World Cup.

Our week was rather an unusual one. We have had a wonderful week of ministry but also our share of unplanned occurrences and also sadness. Monday Wayne took our two (12 ½ year old) “babies” to the vet because Noel had a protrusion on her hip. The doctor gave us the sad news that she has bone cancer. She is a sweet natured dog and it so heartbreaking to hear this news. Thursday we were away for the day and upon our return found our Bubba (alias Spottie) unable to walk. Since then he is walking but showing signs of what we would call a stroke in humans. We have had these two dogs since September 2009 (after my Wolf died) but love them dearly and are very sad to see them slipping away from us.

Yesterday we attended the Maphungwane Baptist Church as Wayne and Pastor Sigwane baptized 21 people. Many were women between 30-40 years of age, two were grandmothers and several were youth age. It was a wonderful service and a blessing to see the church excited to see these new believers baptized. Pray those that were baptized will understand their commitment to the Lord. Pray the church will continue to reach its community.

-June 12th at the mission house in Mbabane the Swazi Baptist National Women’s Committee met to plan the National Women’s Retreat. All except one of the members were present as planning began. I felt the Lord guiding me to ask the ladies if I could lead this year’s retreat and teach a Bible study I had prepared on prayer. The date is October 14-16. Venue: Manzini Baptist Church. Please pray as fliers are made, schedule is prepared and for me as I spiritually prepare for this awesome task.

Friday we began weekly Bible studies (including children) at the Luwhawheni Baptist Church. Most arrived late (even the children). A youth (translator) and the children’s teacher from the Mafucula Baptist Church were my helpers. (We did not conduct a class but did become friends and plans are being made for a weekly children’s Bible study at the Mafucula Baptist Church. ) Because of the need to return home before dark, our Bible study was cut short but plans are for everyone to arrive at 2:00pm Friday the 18th for the weekly Bible study. Please pray the Bible studies will be able to meet this week with many adults, youth and children and everyone will arrive on time!!!

Thursday I tagged along with Wayne to the Shiselweni region. He needed to take care of business in Nhlangano and collect the portable baptistery from the Mgamudze Baptist Church. I took the opportunity to meet with Annah Thwala who was taking a week’s vacation at her home place in Mgamudze and discuss the 2010 children’s camps. Plans included a date for two camps, one in the Shiselweni region (Aug. 30-Sept. 1) and the other in the North Lubumbo region (date undecided) and the schedule. The theme is “Let’s Talk to God” and theme verse is Psalm 55:17. After the planning Annah joyfully said “I wished the camp was next week.” Pray as plans continue for these camps. Pray for a continued joy for us as we minister to the children in the Shiselweni and Lubumbo regions.

I have shared our sadness and the wonderful blessings from the ministry this week and now is the time for the unexpected.
-First on Thursday when collecting the baptistery at Mgamudze, no one knew who had the church key. One of the ladies sent her grandson running from homestead to homestead asking for the key. After an hour, Wayne finally just took the hinge off the door got the materials, replaced the hinge and we proceeded (1 ½ hours later than planned) home. As we drove down the road, one of the youth coming from school stopped us and said, “Oh Pastor, I am sorry but I have the key.”
-Friday when taking the Mafucula ladies home from the Luwhhawhheni Bible study, the bridge was blocked by an overturn sugar cane truck. This was the only recognized road to their homes. I say recognized because since we could not take that road, we were directed through the sugar cane fields (in the dark) following the foot paths to the ladies’ homes. After trudging in untrudgable places we were finally able to leave the ladies’ at their homes.
-Yesterday upon our return trip from Maphungweni we had a flat tire!! This is not an unusual occurrence but it had been a while since we had a flat. But this time we were only 1 hour later getting home than planned and it was still light!! Please pray for us as we deal with unplanned incidents that our hearts will not be turned from the work of our Lord. Pray in all things the Lord will be glorified. 

-On the Swazi team prayer calendar June 19th is the date set for meeting of pastors/leaders of the churches in the Sishelweni region . This has changed and Wayne is meeting with the newly elected officers of the Baptist Convention of Swaziland Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon he will meet with Nkosingiphile Dlamini (pastor of Thunzini) and discuss plans for training events. Sunday he will be visiting with the Maloma Baptist Church. Pray for Wayne as he leads these times of planning. Pray for his time with the Maloma Baptist Church.

In two weeks (June 28-July 1), June Mason, retired missionary will arrive in Swaziland to lead Bible studies with the Swazi Baptist women of the Lubumbo and Shiselweni regions. We look forward to this time with June and the ladies of these two regions.
Pray this time of Bible study will be an encouragement. Pray for June as the Lord prepares her for this very special ministry.

Continue to remember Wayne’s sister Patsy suffering from COPD and on oxygen. -Pray also Wayne’s brother (Terry) who completed a two week course of chemo to protect the brain from the invasion of cancer. Pray his quarterly tests will continue to show his cancer is in remission. -Pray Barbara’s brother-in-law, Gary Rutledge will soon be able to move around unassisted (herniated disc surgery in November) and for Barbara’s nephew-in-law’s mother diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA
June 11-July 11, 2010
Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is NIGERIA:
-Pray for follow-up evangelism and balanced teaching in the midst of massive church growth. Much distortion of the gospel can be seen in Nigeria. Pray also that church leaders would be able to access adequate training to shepherd their flocks.
-Pray against the corruption and greed that runs deep in Nigeria and is felt, in the form of internet scams, hoax emails, crime and drug running, around the world. Pray for God to raise up strong people of integrity who are willing to stand against evil practices.
(Information from The Ultimate Goal (TUG) a project of SASCOL and is the outreach initiative taking place during June and July 2010. -June 5th the Baptist Convention of Swaziland completed their election process. We praise the Lord for the commitment of the representatives who attended the meeting and the prayerful way in which the election process was conducted. We feel those elected will lead the Convention in the direction in which it should go. Pray for unity among the Swazi Baptist churches and the Baptist Convention of Swaziland.

We attended the Vuvulane Baptist Church yesterday and were blessed by the spirit of worship and those who came forward requesting prayer because of sin in their hearts. It was an uplifting service that ended with one asking for prayer to receive Jesus as her Savior. She is from Mozambique and did not quite understand the siSwati that asked those to come forward who wanted to accept Jesus into their hearts. So after the service she came to Wayne (through an interpreter) and said she wanted to receive Jesus as her Savior. AMEN!!
Pray the conviction of sin in the hearts of the Christians will continue and especially pray for this one who accepted Jesus as her Savior. Pray she will truly understand the commitment she made.

During the worship service at Vuvulane, a short older man came into the house in which we were meeting carrying His Bible prepared for worship. Afterwards, one of the members of the congregation was talking to the man and shared this story with us. The man was literally walking in the middle of nowhere (which is exactly where the Vuvulane Baptist Church meets) when he spotted a house with several pairs of shoes in the doorway. Swazis always take off their shoes when entering a house. This is done because most walk and the roads are not paved and their shoes are dirty. Also, the Zionist Church (African Traditional Religion and the religious background of many Swazis) also take their shoes off before entering a church because it is holy ground. So when the little guy saw all the shoes in front of the house, he went in to see if a church was meeting. He was not disappointed!! During his conversation with the man, Wayne learned he is the brother of the language teacher who tutored us when we first arrived in Swaziland. What a small world, but then Swaziland is a small country!!

***Do you know?
What was the Southern Baptist’s Convention’s first foreign mission field and who was the first foreign missionary?

SACRIFICE MADE BY SOUTHERN BAPTISTS…
The 2009 giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering show missions commitment among the Southern Baptists!!  In spite of the weakened economy and sluggish recovery, Southern Baptists gave $148.9 million (goal 170 million) to support international missionaries. It was the third-largest Lottie Moon offering in history. Thank You!! ”We are not disappointed as God proves His faithfulness through Southern Baptists, and giving through Lottie Moon reflects the heart of our churches and their Great Commission commitment,” said Jerry Rankin, IMB president. “Constituting more than half of the IMB’s annual budget, the Lottie Moon offering dramatically impacts our ability to take the Gospel to the lost world.”

***Answer!! 
China; S.C. Clopton, appointed to that country in 1845..

AIDS UPDATE:
Recently startling statistics indicated that Swaziland is well on its way to being the first nation to wipe out their existing population due to the devastating AIDS crisis. Pray the Swazi people will understand their lifestyles are causing premature deaths and by living as our Savior shows us we don’t have to die.

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA
June 11-July 11, 2010
Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is HONDURAS:
-Violent crime waves perpetuated by youth gangs known as “maras” cause terror in poorer districts of towns and cities. Pray for the tens of thousands of youth caught up in these gangs, as well as for people who have been affected by crime.
-In 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated the country, setting development back by decades. Pray for continued assistance to provide relief for those affected by the disaster, as long term help is still desperately needed.
-Praise God for the growth of a missions vision in Honduras. Pray for more national workers to reach out to tribal peoples, as well as missionaries from Honduras to reach out internationally. Pray for the new government of Honduras, that they would govern with Godly wisdom.
(Information from The Ultimate Goal (TUG) a project of SASCOL and is the outreach initiative taking place during June and July 2010. TUG is a network of local and international churches, para-church organizations and ministries all working together on one common goal: to bring hope and change to South Africa.)

The World Cap begins on Friday, 11th of June. Pray for divine appointments between players and South African Christians. Pray this would be an opportunity for the Gospel to be taken back to many unevangelized countries.

Myers Weekly Letter

The tent was packed and everyone was crammed together on the small narrow benches. When the music and singing began the children quickly stood up and began stomping their feet and clapping their hands. Youth and adults joined in. The air was filled with the dust and flaps from the tent were unloosed so fresh air could come in. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves including the few under the influence (of alcohol) that wondered inside the tent. Tuesday night Ben asked us “What is your idol?” I sat like all the others and wondered in my heart, what were my idols or those things that kept me from a wonderful relationship with Jesus. Wednesday night Matt told us that just coming to church does not make us a Christian and expounded on the salvation story. Throughout these sermons people listened and were quite attentive. After each service during the week many came forward to make decisions for the Lord. There is much follow-up to be done in the Luwhhawhheni community after last week’s revival (May 25-30). Please pray that true revival touched the hearts of those who made decisions last week. Pray a strong follow-up will take place in the community and the Luwhhawhheni Baptist Church.

Mgamudze and New Hope Baptist Churches met together on May 23rd for worship and celebration as 10 people were baptized (by Matt and Ben), 4 from New Hope and 6 from Mgamudze. What a wonderful way to praise the Lord and encourage the people. We are so thankful for the two young men (Mfanawemphi and Thulani) who lead the Mgamudze Baptist Church. Please pray the Lord will continue to use these two to lead and guide the Mgamudze Baptist Church. Pray the Lord will provide a strong leader for the New Hope Baptist Church.

We appreciate the wonderful spirit in which Matt and Ben ministered to the Swazis last week. We do pray for the many who listened as Ben and Matt taught and preached, for the relationships that developed and for the blessings that were given as the lord used these two men in Swaziland.

-June 5th the Executive Committee will continue the election process of a chairman and officers for the Baptist Convention of Swaziland. This is a very important process in the life of the Baptist Convention. Please pray all committee members will make an extra effort to be at this meeting. Pray selections will be prayerfully considered before voting. Pray the Lord will be glorified through this election process.

When was the first Southern Baptist missionary appointed specifically to work with the deaf?

Many of the countries in Sub-Saharan Africa face wars, famine, disease, political uncertainty and poverty. Deaf struggle to make a living with limited education and economic opportunities. While we hear that Deaf in some areas are responding to the Good News, are growing, establishing Deaf churches, and reaching out to other Deaf, most Deaf are still lost and in darkness.

Who will wage spiritual warfare through prayer for the Deaf of Sub-Saharan Africa?

**If you or your church is interested in providing prayer support for the Deaf in Sub-Saharan Africa, let me know and I will put you in touch with IMB missionaries working with the Deaf (in Sub-Saharan Africa).

***Answer!!

December 1988. Appointed to Columbia, the missionary had to learn not only Spanish but also Colombian sign language.

AIDS UPDATE:

Ben and Matt visited a hospital in Siteki last week in an effort to minister to hurting and sick Swazis. They were able to share the Gospel with one young lady with two children who was obviously suffering from AIDS. Pray the many Swazis suffering from AIDS will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray for true revival to take place in their hearts enabling them to experience life not death.

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA

June 11-July 11, 2010

Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is Ivory Coast:

-Pray for increased stability in the nation, reconciliation between the two regions and a return to normalcy for those n the northern regions.

-Pray for the estimated 14-16% of people in Ivory Coast infected by HIV, and the 500,000 children who have been orphaned by the disease.

-Pray for the safety of missionaries in the country. As robberies, carjackings and kidnappings increase, missionaries make tempting targets. Pray also for more missionaries to be involved in pioneering work amongst unreached and unoccupied groups.
