Myers Weekly Prayer Letter

The 16-member volunteer team arrived (an hour late) in Jo’burg Tuesday night, enjoyed eating pizza (a break from airline food) and after a good night’s rest and breakfast made their way to Swaziland on Wednesday.  They were delayed in leaving Jo’burg and therefore were later in arriving to Swaziland than anticipated.  We were not able to make the scheduled worship service but did enjoy a wonderful time of getting to know one another and food at the Myers. J  Thursday (after dividing into three sub-groups) the team spent the afternoon joining the Luhhwhawheni , Vuvulane and Mountain Baptist Churches in hut-to-hut visitation.  Pray for this team as they continue ministering in Swaziland.  Pray each will stay healthy and happy serving the Lord in a strange country and a different culture.

·          Today the volunteer team will prepare to lead the overnight women’s and youth retreats at Mafucula.  Registration begins at 4:00 and the retreat ends tomorrow at lunch.  Pray for good attendance for these retreats and those cooking.  Pray also all who participate will experience the presence of the Lord.

·          Sunday the three teams will lead worship with the Luhhwhawheni, Vuvulane and Mountain Baptist Churches.  Pray for a wonderful day of worship!!

·          Monday one of the three teams will visit a children’s ward at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Siteki and the other two teams will continue hut-to-hut visitation especially focusing on ministering to AIDS orphans.

·          Tuesday evangelistic ministries will continue for two teams with the third team conducting an all day children’s Bible study at Mafucula for Vuvulane/MaCethuka, Mountain and Luhhwhawheni Baptist Churches.

·          Tuesday will be a day at the Mkhaya Game Reserve.

·          Wednesday we say good-bye to these wonderful missionaries and servants of the Lord.  Pray for wonderful relationships and blessings during this week’s ministry.

--Last month the pastors of the Mountain (Mafucula), Vuvulane and Luhhwhawheni Baptist Churches met with Wayne to discuss the organization of a North Lubumbo Baptist Association. On the 20th of August congregations from these three churches are invited for a time of introduction and planning.  Pray for a good representation from the Swazi Baptist churches in the North Lubumbo area for today’s meeting.  Pray as plans continue for the organization of this new association.
***The Lubumbo region is divided into two groups, North Lubumbo and South Lubumbo due to the distant between the churches in the northern and the churches in the southern part of the region.  There is a South Lubumbo Association.

---August 25-28 is the National Youth Camp at the Mbekelweni Lutheran High School.  The theme is “Walking Righteously in Christ Through Faith with the camp scripture from Colossians 2:6 7.  Camp speaker/leader is missionary Steve Flippo.  This is a big event for many of our Swazi Baptist youth.  Pray the youth will come with open hearts, minds and ears to fully understand all God has to share with each of them.

RAMADAN AUGUST 1-29:  Over the past few years there has been a surge of interest in the Muslim faith among Swazis.  Three new mosques (Nhlangano, Manzini and Mbabane) were built as well as new businesses run by those who practice the Muslim faith.  During the season of Ramadan when people are spiritually attuned, pray Muslims in Swaziland will hear the voice of the one true Savior.  Pray Swazis will turn from the darkness and follow the Light of the World.

Dear Family and Friends,
This month of August I would like to ask you to be in prayer about a few specific things:
1- The famine that has hit Eastern Africa.  Pray for the Lord to be glorified through this struggle.  Pray for the Baptist Global Response teams as they seek to help.
2- Pray for Believers in this area to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and to share the love of Christ in all they say and do.
3- Pray for those who don't have a relationship with the Lord.  May they hunger for Him.
3- Pray for the Baptist Global Response World Hunger Fund as the funding is in a red alert state.  Please go to http://www.gobgr.org/ to read more and/or to contribute.
Thank you for your prayers!
