Myers Weekly Letter

The tent was packed and everyone was crammed together on the small narrow benches. When the music and singing began the children quickly stood up and began stomping their feet and clapping their hands. Youth and adults joined in. The air was filled with the dust and flaps from the tent were unloosed so fresh air could come in. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves including the few under the influence (of alcohol) that wondered inside the tent. Tuesday night Ben asked us “What is your idol?” I sat like all the others and wondered in my heart, what were my idols or those things that kept me from a wonderful relationship with Jesus. Wednesday night Matt told us that just coming to church does not make us a Christian and expounded on the salvation story. Throughout these sermons people listened and were quite attentive. After each service during the week many came forward to make decisions for the Lord. There is much follow-up to be done in the Luwhhawhheni community after last week’s revival (May 25-30). Please pray that true revival touched the hearts of those who made decisions last week. Pray a strong follow-up will take place in the community and the Luwhhawhheni Baptist Church.

Mgamudze and New Hope Baptist Churches met together on May 23rd for worship and celebration as 10 people were baptized (by Matt and Ben), 4 from New Hope and 6 from Mgamudze. What a wonderful way to praise the Lord and encourage the people. We are so thankful for the two young men (Mfanawemphi and Thulani) who lead the Mgamudze Baptist Church. Please pray the Lord will continue to use these two to lead and guide the Mgamudze Baptist Church. Pray the Lord will provide a strong leader for the New Hope Baptist Church.

We appreciate the wonderful spirit in which Matt and Ben ministered to the Swazis last week. We do pray for the many who listened as Ben and Matt taught and preached, for the relationships that developed and for the blessings that were given as the lord used these two men in Swaziland.

-June 5th the Executive Committee will continue the election process of a chairman and officers for the Baptist Convention of Swaziland. This is a very important process in the life of the Baptist Convention. Please pray all committee members will make an extra effort to be at this meeting. Pray selections will be prayerfully considered before voting. Pray the Lord will be glorified through this election process.

***Do you know?

When was the first Southern Baptist missionary appointed specifically to work with the deaf?

Many of the countries in Sub-Saharan Africa face wars, famine, disease, political uncertainty and poverty. Deaf struggle to make a living with limited education and economic opportunities. While we hear that Deaf in some areas are responding to the Good News, are growing, establishing Deaf churches, and reaching out to other Deaf, most Deaf are still lost and in darkness.

Who will wage spiritual warfare through prayer for the Deaf of Sub-Saharan Africa?

**If you or your church is interested in providing prayer support for the Deaf in Sub-Saharan Africa, let me know and I will put you in touch with IMB missionaries working with the Deaf (in Sub-Saharan Africa).

***Answer!!

December 1988. Appointed to Columbia, the missionary had to learn not only Spanish but also Colombian sign language.

Continue to remember Wayne’s sister Patsy suffering from COPD and on oxygen. -Pray also Wayne’s brother (Terry) who completed a two week course of chemo to protect the brain from the invasion of cancer. Pray his quarterly tests will continue to show his cancer is in remission. -Pray Barbara’s brother-in-law, Gary Rutledge will soon be able to move around unassisted (herniated disc surgery in November) and for Barbara’s nephew-in-law’s mother diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

AIDS UPDATE:

Ben and Matt visited a hospital in Siteki last week in an effort to minister to hurting and sick Swazis. They were able to share the Gospel with one young lady with two children who was obviously suffering from AIDS. Pray the many Swazis suffering from AIDS will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray for true revival to take place in their hearts enabling them to experience life not death.

WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA

June 11-July 11, 2010

Each week I will be sharing prayer requests for one of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup (Soccer). This week’s Country Focus is Ivory Coast:

-Pray for increased stability in the nation, reconciliation between the two regions and a return to normalcy for those n the northern regions.

-Pray for the estimated 14-16% of people in Ivory Coast infected by HIV, and the 500,000 children who have been orphaned by the disease.

-Pray for the safety of missionaries in the country. As robberies, carjackings and kidnappings increase, missionaries make tempting targets. Pray also for more missionaries to be involved in pioneering work amongst unreached and unoccupied groups.

(Information from The Ultimate Goal (TUG) a project of SASCOL and is the outreach initiative taking place during June and July 2010. TUG is a network of local and international churches, para-church organizations and ministries all working together on one common goal: to bring hope and change to South Africa.)

THANK YOU GOD FOR AMERICA

We thank You, God for America,

For the freedom and peace we know;

And we pray for Your continued blessings

On this land that we love so.

We salute our flag, we honor those

Who fought to make us free;

For all the good things we enjoy;

We give the praise to Thee!
