Myers Weekly Prayer Letter

Rain fell yesterday in Tshaneni.  It was good to hear the raindrops hit the roof and clean the earth.  Rain is so important to the Swazis.  Without adequate rainfall crops cannot grow, gardens do not produce food and rivers and streams do not fill up with water that will wash clothes, provide drinking water for animals and people and help with food preparation.  Swazis hope the rains will be plentiful this growing season (Oct.-March).  After the planting of their corn (mealie) strong and frequent rains are needed.  Pray the rains will be plentiful throughout Swaziland.  Pray the Swazis’ field of mealies will receive enough rain to provide food until the next growing season.

Thank you for praying for the ant invasion in our house.  It seems things are under control.  I look each day to see if there are any new sightings.  Please pray our ant invasion is over!!

At the writing of this prayer letter, our mission vehicle still has not received the needed repairs on the gear boxes.  We did get clearance from leadership to have the work done but now are waiting until the shop in Mhlume can get the parts and schedule an appointment.  For those of you who have visited us at Tshaneni, you know it is a typical bush town.  Medical care is scarce, there is no pharmacy and our one grocery store provides plenty of rice, mealie meal and beans for the Swazis.   Manzini is 1 ½ hours from us, Mbabane is 2 hours, Nelspruit, South Africa is 2 hours.  These places help us with medications that are needed, luxury items such as contact solution, sweetner, instant cappuccino, and goodies, as well purchase supplies that help with our work.  Since we have been advised not to take long trips we wait here in Tshaneni hoping our vehicle will soon be repaired so we can get medications and other supplies that we need.  Please pray our vehicle will be repaired this week so we can resume our normal routine of ministry and life.

Because of the state of our vehicle, Wayne again had to cancel his trip to the Shiselweni region for the Shiselweni Baptist Association meeting.  We cannot travel to Manzini or Mbabane for the scheduled Biblical Education Program meeting with Wayne, Todd and Steve or the Swazi Team meeting.   Pray rescheduling or a possible change of venue of these events will not be a problem.

Chris Msibi pastor of the Mgamudze Baptist Church sent this text message to Wayne on Tuesday:
Hi! Pastor we are not okay this side, we need your prayers, my wife has suffered from a mild stroke and I pray that she  will be better soon. Greet Barbara bye  Please pray for Sphesile’s healing.  Pray for the family as they deal with her illness.

From Monica Allen:  I received an email from my mom's cousin this morning that my mom was taken to the hospital yesterday. Tests are showing severe colitis but doctor is doing a colonoscopy to rule out cancer. It is times like these that it is very hard to be away from family. Pray for God's comfort and peace during this time as well as healing for her body. My brother might be going home to be with mom for a few days.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
-Pray for the executive committee of the Swaziland Baptist Convention.  On the agenda is the discussion of how the convention and the Swazi Team should work together.  There is not a consensus among the group on how this should be accomplished.  Pray those attending the meeting will come with an open mind and a desire to have unity between the convention and the missionaries.  May the Lord be glorified in this situation.

--Kym Cole, True Love Waits International consultant arrives in Swaziland on the 2nd of October.  During her time with the Swazi Team she will continue to lead TLW trainings and follow-up with TLW presenters.  Pray Kym’s time in Swaziland will be very beneficial to everyone.  Pray the True Love Waits message will continue to be shared with schools, care centers and churches in 2012.  Kym leaves Swaziland on the 12th.

--October 10-14 is the last session of the South Coast Bible School in 2011.  This schools meets for one week four times a year at the Phuzumoya Baptist Church.  Pray those attending will find the classes helpful with their ministries.  Pray the Swazi Team missionaries (Wayne and Todd) assisting with teaching and other administrative duties.

--Coming together with other women for a time of Bible study and fellowship is a great enjoyment for our Swazi Baptist women.  October 13-15 is the scheduled National Swazi Baptist Women’s Retreat.  Missionary Monica Allen will be the guest speaker.  Theme is “God, Our Father”.  It will be a time for the ladies to be refreshed, renewed and strengthened as they return to their homes and families who depend upon them.  Pray many ladies will be able to attend this time of fellowship and study and will leave refreshed, renewed and strengthened.

What missionary worked for 40 years in China literally giving her life to her work?  Lottie Moon is famous for her desperate appeal in 1888 for more missionaries (resulting in the annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering).  Funds were so scarce Lottie once spent 14 continuous years on the mission field.  Thank you for giving to the 2010 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  Last  year’s giving was one of the largest in record.  As plans begin for the promotion of the 2011 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, pray the faithfulness of Southern Baptist churches to give this annual offering will continue.  Pray the Lord will be glorified a planning begins and goals are set.
